Tire Shredder

Situation Situation
A slow speed tire shredder is particularly prone to inertia shockloads due to the high reduction ratio in its gearbox.

problem Problem
The cutting drums in a shredder rotate towards each other. If metal falls into the shredder, it can be wedged between the drum causing a sudden stop. The motor and pulleys equivalent inertia at the cutting drums increases by the square of the gearbox ratio. This means even a small motor can have a devastating effect on the shredder.

SLQ Series
SLQ Series - Tire Shredder

• Single disc with torque to 2,096 lb-ft
• Accepts Renold Hi-Tec rubber coupling for shaft to shaft installations
• Accepts sprockets or pulleys for parallel shaft installations
• Shaft mounted using QD bushings

Torque Limiter SLQ Series

Solution Solution
The driven pulley is mounted onto the SLQ and the SLQ is mounted on the input of the gearbox. This isolates the motor/pulley inertia thus protecting the shredder during a jam.

Auxiliary Drives

Situation Situation
Customers need a reliable system to remain connected to the drive but allow quick engagement of the backup. Repairs are often difficult when the drives must be moved to work on the couplings.

problem Problem
Many pieces of large industrial equipment require auxiliary drives to back up the main drive in case of failure or maintenance. Some applications require slow speed drives for non-production days.

Max Bores (O/R) 2.25-6.75"
Max Bores (Driver) 1.87-6.50"

Max Overrunning RPM

2800-1350 RPM

Solution Solution
By combining sprag-type over-running clutches to gearcouplings, the result is the best combination of torque capability to bore capacity of any over-running clutch coupling because the unit does not have to be over-sized to accommodate the bore requirements. The center section on an SGK drops out, allowing for ease of repair to the drive system.

Kiln Drives

Situation Situation
Uncontrolled rollback presents a significant danger to personnel and equipment because it can lead to a centrifugal explosion of drive components. Kilns need a safety devise capable of handling this extreme energy safely and reliably.

problem Problem
Pilot bearingsInexperienced operators can damage manual clutches while starting machine. The small pilot bearings have a short service life and transfer belt-load into the engine crankshaft.

Energy Capacity

650,000-3,000,000 ft-lb

Solution Solution
By combining sprag-type over-running clutches to gearcouplings and a fluid coupling, a compact solution is found. The high energy capacity and the torque characteristics of the unit make it ideal. The retarding torque increases exponentially as the speed increases. At the end of the rollback, oscillation and forward roll is completely eliminated.
